LA's first $99 store- TWEAK 99 opens on W 3rd St--- TWEAK99 values smart design and makes holiday shopping fun

TWEAK99 is a new shop that values smart design. Gifts are clever, purposeful and fun. They're affordable. Visit the new store and you'll experience the same joy of discovery as you find at a museum store or (as we're told) a hip East LA gem.

" Holiday shopping puts fear into most people, especially men! Well fear no more," says owner and home stylist Tara Riceberg. "I've created a store that makes it quick and easy for everyone to shop and purchase thoughtful gifts in a variety of categories and price ranges- just like online shopping except you get to touch the gifts!"

In fact, the sign at the front door encourages customers to play. No "break it, you buy it" policy here. "You can't have fun with the product unless you interact with it. I know if something gets broken it's an accident. Just say sorry."

TWEAK99 is merchandised by price (one side is up to $49.99, the other one up to $99.99) to make shopping more focused and faster. Riceberg decided on a $99 store this year because it's refreshing to walk into a shop where you can afford everything. "There is nothing more depressing than picking up a item you love just to discover it's too expensive. You don't have to spend a lot of money if you have an eye for great design."

Gifts range from Orfeo Qualigiata's crystal shot glasses to Colin Schleeh note pads to bath sets by Christina Zilber of Jouer. Their purpose is to enhance daily living. All gifts, from toys, jewelry and candles, are creatively pre-wrapped with fun paper and adornments like butterflies, snowflakes and pine cones. "Unwrapping the gift is the best! You want to tear the paper for the great reveal. That's why we put so much effort into making the gift beautiful. We want the recipient to enjoy the process of receiving a gift," says Riceberg.

If the flair of the store seems familiar, that’s because Tara owned Tesoro, the Los Angeles home accessories store known for its uncommon handcrafted items from around the world. Tara’s selections are still artful and eye-catching and her advice for gift giving is the same as for decorating. “Choose items that are distinctive to enliven a home or office.”
